Analyst Placement Plan
Overview
- Tests will be based on aptitude and technical skills.
- Aptitude can break down into three parts:
- Quantitative Aptitude (QA)
- Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning (DI and LR)
- Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension (VA and RC)
- DI and LR would be one of the most challenging sections.
- If your English is weak, communicate with your friends and family in English.
- Choose a language (Python/R) & learn the language's syntax(can refer to this, this or this).
- Case Studies, Guesstimates, Puzzles, and standard HR questions are a must.
- Probability and stats are also significant.
- Form a group to assist in case studies, resumes, interview preparations, etc.
January to March
- Be clear about the profile(s) for which you will be sitting in the placements ASAP.
- For Resume
- One intern (preferably in the field of analytics/ML and alike)
- Two to three projects in analytics/ML/business development/product role, etc.)
- PoR (if you have), clearly explain your roles and responsibilities.
- Few extracurricular activities to strengthen your holistic development
- Check the playlist for sample projects in Python.
- Go through the syllabus carefully (from here) and plan a timeline that suits you.
- Read the placement experiences from the TPC forum.
- Be comfortable with Python libraries like NumPy, Matplotlib, Pandas, etc
- Develop a basic understanding of Microsoft Excel from here, or do a course of your choice.
- To develop an understanding of Case Studies and Guesstimates(refer this, this, and this).
- If time permits, you can also pursue this course to get a look and feel of the profile.
- Also, if time permits, learn visualisation software for an edge, preferably Tableau.
April to July
- You can refer to the step by step approach in the link.
- Do not rush to Step 2 (DI and LR) until and unless you have solved all the questions in Step 1 (QA).
- Be thorough with the technologies you are using in your internship and projet
July to September
Try to solve all questions and clarify your doubts in all three sections: step 1, Step 2 and Step 3.
These months should focus on improving your accuracy and the ability to solve
questions within a stipulated time.
You can either enrol for mock tests in an institute or give free mock tests like Prepleaf or Pariksha (ideally from the 1st week of September).
October to November
- Pick up cases from here and guesstimates from here or here, and start giving mock interviews. For further practice, use this. Focus on your approach and keep it structured, concise, and to the point.
- Solve all the 85 puzzles on GFG.
- Attend the PPTs of all the companies and make notes about some of your targeted companies.
Go through the JD of every company you are sitting to know the kind of role and people they are looking for.
Resume Preparation
- Be honest on your resume.
- Be crisp and precise with your resume points.
- Three to four points are usually enough to summarise the internship/project.
- Be ready to answer questions like:
- Why this project?
- What was your contribution?
- What impact will it create in the real world? Etc.
For projects and internships about ML, NLP or DL, prepare every algorithm mentioned and the mathematics behind them in depth.
If you have mentioned your PoR, be ready to answer questions like:
- Why is it essential to this profile?
- What impact has it had on your life? Etc.
- Mention some extracurricular activities aligning with the profile, like HULT Prize, to steer the conversation towards it if necessary.
- Prepare standard HR questions beforehand(can refer this and this).
